Emanuele Zuelli: This man from Bolzano has big plans

When you watch Emanuele Zuelli playing football, it reminds you a little of Toni Kroos: the 18-year-old from Bolzano skillfully distributes the balls in front of the defense, has a fine ball handling ability, dictates the tempo, makes few mistakes and is also good with his solid shot properly cause danger. “Toni Kroos has won a few more trophies than me,” Zuelli has to smile when asked about this comparison. “I personally like Thiago Alcantara. The way he handles the ball is special,” enthuses the youngster.

He doesn't have a great role model, says Zuelli. But a big dream: “Of course, Serie A is my big goal. That's where everyone wants to go." In the last few months, he has shown that the man from Bolzano is already on the right path, in which he has mastered the first, important steps on the infamous career ladder with flying colors. “I started last season with Chievo Verona’s Primavera team,” said Zuelli, who was also captain. “The invitation from the first team came in December.”

From then on, Zuelli trained with the Serie B team of the traditional Veronese club, where he made 8 championship appearances - he was even in the starting line-up twice. “The highlight for me was the play-offs. We were eliminated in the semi-finals, but I gained important experience. It’s not natural for an 2-year-old to play in games like this.” Discovered during a test kick with Val Gardena Not only because of these statements, Zuelli makes a very mature impression despite his young age, but also because he conveys the feeling: I know what I want. Zuelli, who was born in Meran but lives in Bolzano, took his first footballing steps with Neugries and Bozen 96, then played for three years in the talent factory of FC Südtirol before making the unusual move to FC Gröden ("I wanted to see a new reality" ) took place.

It is an irony of fate that the springboard to professional football was located there. In any case, Zuelli was spotted by Chievo's scouts during a test kick, which is why he went to Verona for training sessions several times a week.

Zuelli (number 10) was trained, among other things, in the youth sector of FC Südtirol.

The following season, Zuelli – at the age of 14 – was signed for Chievo. Since then he has also lived in Verona. “I’m lucky because I was never really homesick. “Besides, Bolzano isn’t that far away from Verona,” explains the youngster, who completed his school-leaving exams in the summer and can now fully concentrate on football. Already signed the first professional contract In any case, Chievo thinks highly of the young midfielder: Zuelli signed his first professional contract with the Serie B club in January when he was just 18 years old. After his first real preparation with the professionals, the young man is bursting with enthusiasm. “My goals this year? If I get the chance to play, I want to be there.”
