FCS goalkeeper Poluzzi and the reunion with the champion coach

It remains to be seen whether it is an advantage for the FCS or Venezia that Ivan Javorcic meets his former club as coach of the Lagunenstädter team. “There are no secrets. I am sure that we will go into the match against Venezia well prepared,” explained FCS keeper Poluzzi, who had the season of his life under coach Javorcic last year with the incredible number of only 9 goals conceded in 38 league games.

“He knows us, we know him. I don’t see a big advantage for one team or the other,” said the 34-year-old. “Venezia is a completely different type of team than we were last season. That's why coach Javorcic will do certain things differently. However, these days you can't keep anything secret in football anyway. Every opponent studies you beforehand, we do the same thing in order to be as prepared as possible for your strengths and weaknesses every weekend.” Greco meets his former boss Javorcic and Leandro Greco – the successful coaching duo from last year's championship season will duel on the sidelines in the Bolzano Arena on Sunday. “They really worked together brilliantly last season,” said Poluzzi. Now the assistant coach, who has been promoted to head coach, has sole say at the FCS. “The farewell to coach Lamberto Zauli was a defeat for all of us, but it also gave the team a jolt. After the climb it was important to continue on the chosen path. The reaction of the players after the disappointing preparation and the Zauli separation was there - in Brescia the courageous performance was not enough for a point, but the team still gained self-confidence. “There was a significant improvement from previous performances in every way,” Poluzzi said. “We are on the right track, even if there is of course a lot to improve.” But what didn't work under coach Zauli? “It was different than what we were used to last season. In this way, we were unable to achieve the expected level of performance. We stayed below our potential, individually but also as a team. But that is now in the past. We have to look forward. Under Leo Greco we can continue the work of last season.” “It was my career goal to compete in Serie B as the starting goalkeeper.” James Poluzzi Poluzzi does not believe that the turbulent preparation period with the departure of Zauli just 5 days before the start of the league had a negative impact on the FCS performance in Brescia. “We players were fully focused. We were proud to be part of FC Südtirol's debut in Serie B. We played against last year's league play-off semi-finalists. And yes, we lost, but the performance was impressive.”

For Poluzzi himself it wasn't a Serie B premiere, but at least it was only the second match in the second league. On May 2, 2, he was between the posts for Spal on the last Serie B matchday. At that time, however, he came on as a substitute for Alex Meret. He made his starting eleven debut in Serie B last Sunday in Brescia. “I was excited too. It was my career goal to compete in Serie B as the starting goalkeeper. I’m really excited about this season.”
