Leandro Greco will be head coach – but not in South Tyrol

After retiring from FC Südtirol, Leandro Greco also left his mark as a coach at the White-Reds. The South Tyrolean board of directors thinks highly of the former Roma professional. Nevertheless, they will part ways in the summer.

Leandro Greco's first 3 professional games as head coach were not a happy one, as all 3 games were lost. Last fall, the FCS assistant coach stepped in at short notice for the dismissed Lamberto Zauli. After the commitment of Pierpaolo Bisoli, who also brought his own shop stewards, Greco moved into the background. But the good coaching approaches, which were particularly evident in the championship season as Ivan Javorcic's runner-up, did not go unnoticed by other clubs.

Already reported a few weeks ago SportNewsthat Greco could take up his first head coaching position in the summer. Now it seems that time has come, because Italian football insider Gianluca Di Marzio reports an agreement between the current FCS assistant coach and Olbia (Serie C). The Sardinians separated from coach Roberto Occhiuzzi after the past season and have apparently chosen Greco as his successor. Last season there was also a South Tyrolean in Olbia's squad, the Bolzano talent Niccolò Gabrieli. Greco is expected to sign a one-year contract with Olbia and will be officially presented next week.

Greco stands for offensive possession football

Greco has earned a good reputation at FC Südtirol. The white and red club bosses predict a great coaching career for him. Greco didn't see eye to eye with Bisoli when it came to football, but he praised his boss a few weeks ago: “He managed to create a feeling of belonging for the FCS in the city of Bolzano. It enables me to gain very important experience for my career.” While Bisoli has prescribed a strict defensive line for the FCS, Greco stands for proactive football. Ball possession and structures in the game build-up are very important to him. This was already clearly visible in his 3 games as FCS head coach. As his role models Greco in an interview with SportNews Mikel Arteta's Arsenal and Gianpiero Gasperini's Atalanta.

Good luck, Leandro (it was clear that he wouldn't stay in South Tyrol, we don't have a Serie C team)
