Huge fuss at the FCS: Coach Zauli is gone!

Early in the morning it became clear that something unexpected had happened at FC Südtirol. Now it is clear: Lamberto Zauli does not want to start with the team in Serie B. The coach submitted his resignation – five days before the start in Brescia.

An official confirmation from the club is still pending, but Zauli will not be on the bench for the White Reds on Sunday against Brescia (20.45 p.m.). The coach, who only took over the reins from Ivan Javorcic, who moved to Venice, in the new season, has already left. At the moment we can only speculate about the reasons for the resignation. What was the trigger for the end? Zauli's goal was to have the squad completely together by the first days of August at the latest. That didn't happen. Although striker Michele Marconi is about to sign his contract in Bolzano, there is still no sign of the starting six. Sports director Paolo Bravo has not (yet) been able to guide the desired players for the midfield center to FC Südtirol. Was the dissatisfaction with the behavior on the transfer market the trigger for Zauli's resignation? Rather unlikely. After all, the exchange window is open until the end of August. Patience is required - also because the FCS cannot wave a large suitcase of money.

Zauli's poor pre-season performances may have caused a certain degree of resignation. Did the coach not see himself beyond leading the club into its historic first Serie B season? This is also pure speculation, because Zauli will have known before he moved to FC Südtirol that a difficult task awaited him and what he was getting himself into. Especially since that would be a slap in the face for Bravo, who explicitly advocated for Zauli as the new FCS coach. Zauli was his first choice and a fatal mistake if that was really the reason for his resignation. Then Bravo would have to do more than just question itself. The same would apply if Zauli had not left the club voluntarily. The cup loss against Feralpisalò (1:3) was bitter, but was hardly the trigger for a possible dismissal.

Either way – FC Südtirol is in crisis a few days before the start of the championship. In terms of sport, there are problems at every turn, and now you're left without a coach. Former player Leandro Greco will act as an interim solution. The assistant coach did not come to South Tyrol with Zauli, but was chosen by the club. Greco is thought very highly of in Rungg, but he cannot be a permanent solution - simply because of the lack of a trainer's license. Now it's up to FC Südtirol to bring some light into the darkness.
