Series B, highlights & new arrivals: Now the captain speaks

Fabian Tait is living his dream. The Salurner made it from amateur footballer (major league with Salurn) via Mezzocorona (Serie D) to Serie B. The now 29-year-old has become more important at FC Südtirol every year and is now officially the captain of the team after Hannes Fink's resignation. On the edge of the training camp in Ridnaun Valley SportNews took the opportunity to chat at length with Tait. You could tell he was looking forward to the new challenges.

Fabian Tait spoke to SportNews about...

...the game plan: “This year the championship is brutally demanding anyway, so it makes it difficult Opening in Brescia and at home against Venezia no big difference now. There are huge teams there – and many former Serie A clubs.”

...the highlights: “I’m really looking forward to all the games. Of course it will be something special to play in Genoa or Cagliari. These are stadiums that I know very well as an Inter fan from television.”

...the first home game: “It's kind of fate that it's against the former coach (Ivan Javorcic; Note d. Red. ) goes. Of course it will be brutally difficult because Venezia will certainly be one of the best teams in the league. But it will be important for us to get off to a good start in the championship.”

...the new trainer: “So far everything is going well. Even when we played against his team last year (Lamberto Zauli previously coached Juve's U23s; Note d. Red. ) played, I was positively impressed. I particularly liked how he continually motivated the team and had a positive influence from outside.”

...the level of training: “Even though the level was already high in the last half of the year, it has risen again. The training sessions in the last second half of the season were a lot of fun, but with the new additions you can feel a difference again.”

...the new additions: “You just feel that they have that little bit more. If you have one Mirko Carretta , or Mattia Sprocati When you see them in training, you understand why they played so highly in their careers. They simply have even more talent with the ball. We have to make sure that we integrate them well here and that they feel comfortable. At the same time, they also have to understand what our mentality is like here. In other words: we always give it our all. But I’m optimistic about it.”

...Hans Nicolussi Caviglia: "One can see that er is simply a talent and he has in recent years trained with the best at Juventus . He has a tremendous mentality and I'm sure he will help us. We call him 'Hons' (laughs).”

...the euphoria of advancement: “You can still feel it. But we must not make the mistake of comparing everything with last year. This will be a completely new challenge this year.”

...relegation: “I'm optimistic because I know how the team works. I know our mentality. We will now try to pass this on to the new arrivals. Of course, the goal of staying in the league will be brutally difficult because Serie B is simply a completely different league.”

...further purchases: “I think there will definitely be a midfielder and a striker coming. Something will probably happen in the right-back position too. The sports director (Paolo Bravo; Note d. Red. ) probably already has a few ideas. I think he will get the right people again. I like that Bravo also pays attention to the character of the players.”

...the level in Serie B: “We keep hearing that it will be the best Serie B in the last 10 years. I'm very excited to see the level of the opponents. We have often played against such clubs in the Coppa Italia in recent years. But you can't compare that. I’m just looking forward to competing with these opponents.”
