Simon Laner: family man and tireless footballer

Simon Laner never gets bored with football and everyday family life. The footballer from Meran, who lives in Bergamo, has survived the Corona emergency situation in Bergamo well over the last 10 months and has followed it closely. “Things are gradually getting better in Bergamo, many people can go back to work, but the concern remains and caution is always advised,” reports the 37-year-old. But football won't let him go. “I played at Franciacorta in Serie D until the Corona outbreak. Then Crema coach Andrea Dossena approached me. I used to play with him at Verona and in Chiasso,” says Laner. Dossena was even under contract with Liverpool FC for one and a half years in 2008/09. “We are still good friends and I enjoy playing for his team in Serie D. We were in first place for a long time and are now in second place. Who knows, maybe I’ll be promoted one last time when I’m 37,” jokes Laner.

But why should we talk about one last time? Zlatan Ibrahimovic turns 40 in October and is the big driver of Serie A leaders Milan this year. Laner has also always been a Milan fan. “AC Milan are playing really well, Ibra is the driving force. He inspires everyone with his will to win and his skills. I played against him once with Cagliari, he's really strong. And Milan coach Stefano Pioli is an excellent coach and does a great job. It can work with the championship title,” says Laner. Matilde has been in the world for 3 months. Our children have brought a lot of joy and new energy into everyday life. I support Roberta whenever and wherever I can,” says family father Laner. “I can definitely imagine a future as a coach” He even speaks the South Tyrolean dialect with his son. “He understands everything, but he finds it a little more difficult to speak. We really want to come to South Tyrol in the summer. I want to show my children a lot, meet relatives and friends. “During the Corona period, you have to and had to do without a lot of things,” the 37-year-old also knows: “My parents were also able to hold little Matilde in their arms for the time being.”

Corona has turned many people's lives upside down. Laner: “However, you always have to look forward and be positive.” The 37-year-old already acquired his coaching license in Coverciano last year: “Football has always been my life and I could definitely imagine a future as a coach. But there's still time for that, we'll see, I don't want to look too far ahead. One thing and another will come about.”

To person: Simon Laner was born on January 28, 1984 in Meran. He lived there for five years, then lived with his family in Gargazon for a few years before moving back to Merano. His brother Denis (two years older) works as a photographer in Berlin. Simon is a big music lover and likes to play the drums himself. Laner started playing football as a child in Gargazon and received a solid education at Virtus DB. As a teenager he moved to Verona and at the age of 18 he made his debut there in Serie B. He even played in Serie A with Verona and Cagliari. He is currently playing for Crema in Serie D. Simon is married to Roberta, father of Kilian (5) and Matilde (3 months old). The family lives in Bergamo, 500 meters from the football stadium.
