Italian Cup: Two last-minute goals break the FCS's neck

FCS coach Lorenzo D'Anna rested eight of the eleven players who played in the last championship game on Wednesday afternoon. Only Bassoli, Tagliani and Iacoponi had to work overtime in the cup. The trainer had Tonozzi in goal. However, Renate also rested numerous players and even left six regular players at home.

The encounter started very badly for FC Südtirol: after a few minutes of play, Rubin brought down Renate striker Bernasconi in the penalty area. The referee immediately decided on a penalty, which the self-fouled player safely converted. In the 17th minute, FCS had the chance to equalize, but Turchetta's goal was disallowed for offside. It was only with a lot of effort that the White-Reds managed to force their own game on their opponents. However, the spell was broken in the 26th minute when Dell'Agnello fed Bastone and he made it 1-1 with a precise, low shot. Afterwards, the few spectators in the Drusus Stadium were offered lean football food. Only Dell'Agnello on one side and Bernasconi on the other created a hint of goal danger.

Ahmedi brings momentum Only with the substitution of Ahmedi was D'Anna able to revive the FCS game. The Albanian youth international only needed a few minutes to put the home team in the lead again with a powerful shot. This is the first goal for the professionals for the 20-year-old from Kastelbell. From then on, FC Südtirol had the game firmly in hand. At least that's how it seemed, but in the first minute of stoppage time, Gualdi caught the FCS defense ice cold with a header. It hit the crossbar and Florian only had to push it in to make it 2-2. Both teams had to go into overtime.

There Tonozzi first thwarted a great chance from Riva before Ekuban and Ahmedi started the next FCS attacks. But just like at the end of regular time, Renate scored at the last second. This time it was Bernasconi who scored his second goal in the 119th minute to make it 3-2 for the visitors. This was also the final score.

After the cup exit, FC Südtirol can now fully devote themselves to the championship, which continues at the weekend with the home game against Lumezzane.

FC Südtirol had to admit defeat to Lega Pro fourth division team Renate 2-3 after extra time in the first round of the Italian Cup. The D'Anna team looked like the sure winner until the 91st minute.
