Jergina want to lay a good foundation away from home

After the two wins against Valenzana (1:0 at home, 2:1 away), ASC St. Georgen wants to add another successful chapter to the “playoff fairytale”. Two games still separate Morini's protégés from returning to the fourth Italian league, in which the club has already played for two seasons (2011/12, 2012/13). The playoff final on the next two Sundays will be against Legnano, which this year reached second place behind Varese in Circle A of the Lombardy Oberliga.

AC Legnano was founded in 1913 and is a traditional club that also played three seasons in Serie A. The Lombard club plays its home games in the “Stadio Mari Giovanni”, which has space for 5000 spectators. However, the first leg will take place in Inveruno on Sunday, June 5th because the stadium is occupied elsewhere. AC Legnano's official club colors are purple and white, which is why Legnano is also called “I Lilla”.

Coach Aldo Monza has an extremely strong squad at his disposal with many players who have played in Serie B, Lega Pro or Serie D in the past. Fabio Rovrena (born 1984) runs in midfield, who has 12 professional seasons under his belt and played for Vicenza in Serie B, among others. In attack, Marco Valtulina played 68 games in Serie C1 for Pro Patria and Spal. Legnano's most dangerous player is probably the Argentinian Miguel Angel Magnoni (born 1981), who trained at Boca Junior and has so far scored eight times in 13 games for Legnano. The defensive skills of the Pusterers will be in demand, with coach Patrizio Morini having to improvise on the defensive.

Because ASC St. Georgen cannot play with their best line-up in the first leg. With Althuber, Brugger and Aichner, three regular defensive players are missing because they are suspended. “I am convinced that Patrizio Morini will come up with something to get the Legnano offensive under control. All players are highly motivated. We want to create a good starting position in the first leg for the return match, which will hopefully be a South Tyrolean football festival. Everything that comes after that is an encore,” says sports director Georg Brugger.

In fact, St. Georgen can already be very proud of what they have achieved this season. Reaching the playoff final is already a sensational success that no other domestic club has achieved to date. And perhaps the “Jergina” will even end up being the first South Tyrolean club to reach the fourth division via this back door. 180 minutes and possibly extra time plus a penalty shootout still separate the Pusterers from it.

180 minutes and possibly extra time plus a possible penalty shootout separate St. Georgen from promotion to Serie D. Part one of the playoff final against Legnano takes place this Sunday in Inveruno. Kick-off is at 16 p.m.
