Kaneider, Rellich & Co.: These players play at the Europeada

The squad reveal for the South Tyrolean men's team aroused the most interest. The local amateur footballers were crowned European champions in both 2008 and 2012 and are therefore the favorites for the third edition of the Europeada, which is known to be held on their own doorstep in the Puster and Badia valleys. The sporting director Andreas Vieider and the two coaches Manfred Villgrater and Thomas Piffrader have once again managed to put together a powerful team - even if only five players from the last Europeada edition are still there. “We made a conscious decision to include those players in the team who have distinguished themselves at the clubs due to their consistency over the years. Maybe that’s why one or two players are missing who should actually be in the squad given their quality,” explained Andreas Vieider.

The showpiece: The attack The team's highlight is undoubtedly the attack. With Matthias Bacher (Naturns), Lukas Hofer (Virtus Bozen), Peter Mair (Naturns) and Thomas Piffrader (St. Georgen), four absolute “bombs” will swirl in the opposing defensive ranks. The fact that the South Tyrolean men's team is seen as the favorite in many places can also be attributed to the other players on the team: players like Martin Ritsch, Simon Greif, Roland Harrasser, Stefan Rellich and Daniel Kaneider are undoubtedly among the crème de la crème of local amateur football. For attacker Peter Mair it is clear: “We have two goals at the Europeada: have fun and win the pot.”

Governor Kompatscher: “When I reach the finals, I’ll be wearing my traditional costume.” In addition to the South Tyrolean men's team, the three other participants from our region were also introduced. Gianni Crepaz will lead the Ladin women's team into the Europeada, Patrick Dapunt will act as head coach of the Ladin men's team, while Ulrike Sanin will be responsible for the South Tyrolean women's team. The captain of the latter team, Katrin Plankl, wants to win the tournament, “but cultural issues are also very important at such an event.” State Governor Arno Kompatscher was also present at the press conference, who, like sports assessor Martha Stocker, underlined the importance of the event: “I will try to come to a game in lederhosen. “I’ll even show up in traditional costume at a South Tyrolean final,” said Kompatscher with a smile.
