Katrin Plankl: “We’re not exactly lucky”

Katrin Plankl, CF Südtirol has already played two games in Serie A. How do you rate the level in the top league?

The standard in Series A is quite high in contrast to Series B. It's a great experience to play against teams like Verona, Brescia, Tavagnacco or Fiorentina, who are full of international players and have the opportunity to train five or six times a week.

And what exactly are the differences to the second league?

Everything happens faster in Serie A. The players are technically and tactically better, the rhythm of the game is higher than in Serie B and the opposing teams' play is quite physical. But we trained well in preparation, are well prepared in terms of fitness and ready for the tasks ahead.

What is the mood in the team at the moment? A 0-6 defeat like last Saturday against Verona is a bit depressing, isn't it?

No, not at all. The mood in the team is still good. The point in the away game against Roma gave us a lot of morale. But the first half hour against the reigning Italian champions must also give us impetus for the future. We were able to keep up well until our goalkeeper's red card and with a bit of luck we could have taken the lead. This game showed us that we have a chance against all teams if we play as a team and believe in our abilities.

What is possible for CF Südtirol on Saturday?

We're not exactly lucky at the moment. Our goalkeeper is suspended and some players are injured or injured. Nevertheless, we are heading to Cervia on Saturday with full confidence. Victory is certainly within reach. But if it is only enough for a draw, we will also gratefully accept this point. We look from game to game. The score will be settled at the end of the championship and hopefully we will be above the line then.

Finally, a question about you and your position: At SSV Brixen you were responsible for scoring goals, now at CF Südtirol you often also play in defense. Why?

I play where the coach positions me and where I can help the team. It's not important where I play, but that the team is successful. Last Saturday, for example, I played in midfield again after a long time. Who knows where the coach will line me up next Saturday. All I know is that I definitely won't be in goal. (laughs)
