Kovac continues to plan with Boateng and praises his old stars

“With him, Mats Hummels and Niklas Süle, I have three world-class defenders and I need them too,” said Kovac in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

If the central defender does leave the record champions, Kovac assumes that “we will think about a replacement”. Boateng (29) has long been associated with the French champions Paris St. Germain, trained by Thomas Tuchel.

Kovac also showered Bayern veteran stars Arjen Robben (34) and Franck Ribery (35) with praise. He said about the Dutchman: “I had heard a lot about him, but he has exceeded all expectations many times over. What this man does every day for his job is fascinating.”

Ribery also surprised him in pre-season preparation. “The way he went through seven tough weeks of preparation with energy and enthusiasm is extraordinary. “He’s still a world-class player,” said Kovac, describing the Frenchman as a “mentality monster.”

In working with Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Kovac wants to stay true to his line. “I will certainly say my opinion, even if it is different than that of the bosses,” said the former Frankfurt coach and emphasized: “I am sure that Hoeneß and Rummenigge want a self-confident coach and not a yes-man.”
