Luca Piazzi: “Filehner will stay at FCS 95% of the time”

Luca Piazzi, let's start with Manuel Fiwickeler. Will he stay in Bolzano?

“I estimate the chances that he will play for the FCS next season to be 95 percent. So far no concrete offer has arrived. Given the current state of things, I assume that Manuel will be an integral part of our team. We will build a strong structure around him. Our transfer activities are far from complete.”

First, however, we have to persuade Pederzoli and Campo to stay... “Campo has already declared that he wants to stay in Bolzano. And this despite Pavia making him a lucrative offer. With Pederzoli, however, the situation is different: he approached us with a request to be allowed to leave the club. Pavia met with open ears from him.”

With Michael Cia, however, the club has made a long-term commitment and has given him a four-year contract. How did this decision come about? “Although he is 26 years old and already has a lot of experience under his belt, we are convinced that he still has room for improvement. He has clearly lacked continuity so far. We now want to give this to him at FC Südtirol. With us he can play in his preferred position as a winger. When it comes to talent and technique, I rate him a step higher than his predecessor Turchetta.”

Why was Chinellato hired, of all people, a striker who has already disappointed at FC Südtirol in the past?

“First of all, one thing needs to be made clear: this country has a bad habit of labeling a player prematurely, whether he plays well or badly. Chinellato played a strong first half of the season in Bolzano, but was then displaced by new signing Giannetti. But I am still convinced of his qualities. He has a classic striker stature and the necessary will to make a breakthrough.”

Who will be the next newcomer?

“Unfortunately I can’t name any names yet. However, we will soon be signing a goalkeeper who is currently completing a training camp with a Serie A club. Then it is important to find two players for the flanks and a replacement for Pederzoli. If we fill these holes adequately, we will have a young, really strong team at the start.”
