Lucena Gonzales has been training with the “Jergina” since last Thursday and he will probably not be eligible to play until next weekend. “Martin Ritsch's season ended after he tore his cruciate ligament, and Alex Ziviani is never really fit - in my opinion, these are two of the best midfielders in the league who are out. In the long term, we lacked alternatives at headquarters. When the “Gonzales” opportunity arose, we didn’t hesitate and jumped at it.”

Via Facebook to St. Georgen Opportunity is the right word. After pulling the strings at either Levico or Trent for the last six years, the 30-year-old from Córdoba returned to his native Spain in the summer. So back to the country where he played football at Atletico Madrid as a youth, including with David De Gea (currently Manchester United) and Koke (Atletico Madrid). Gonzales signed with Arcos CF, a club in the Tercera Division, equivalent to Serie D in Italy. Things went well at the beginning, the Spaniard played the first two games. But then the coach threw in the towel and his successor came with a few new players - for Gonzales a clear and bitter sign from the club that he was no longer needed.

“One of our players,” explains Georg Brugger, “followed Gonzales’ career and became aware of his difficult situation through a Facebook entry. So we seized the opportunity and contacted him. After a day of consideration, Gonzales agreed to us.” The midfielder has been living in Bruneck and training with the team since last Thursday. “He knew the club, the players knew him – that’s why there was great enthusiasm.”

A clear sign? From the outside, the commitment of a player from the Lucena Gonzales brand, who, in addition to his engagements in Spain, Trento and Levico, also played in Scotland for a month, creates a clear impression: St. Georgen wants the title. When asked about this thesis, Brugger answers as follows: “We can, but we don’t have to. Sure, the conditions are there to win the championship. That's why we want to try it, but we don't have to force ourselves to climb up. If it works, that would of course be a great thing. I know from past days that winning a title is an indescribable feeling.”
