Matthäus advises BVB to continue signing Stöger

Dusseldorf (SID) Record-breaking national player Lothar Matthäus advises DFB Cup winners Borussia Dortmund to retain coach Peter Stöger beyond the season. "Dortmund has recovered under Stöger. BVB hasn't lost under him yet. If a coach is successful, there is no reason to part ways. Stöger is doing well, he is well received by the players," praised the 56th Year-old Sky expert met the Austrian at an appointment in Düsseldorf. Most recently, BVB managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke also promised a contract extension with the former Cologne coach. "He hasn't lost a game yet. If he doesn't lose any more, we would be stupid if we didn't continue with him," said Watzke on Sky. BVB originally only signed Stöger as Peter Bosz's successor until June 30 of this year. Stöger was actually only supposed to be coach in Dortmund until the summer. “We are satisfied, he is an exceptionally good coach,” Watzke praised the 51-year-old. Like Matthäus, the BVB boss emphasized the “extraordinarily good” relationship of trust between him, Stöger and sports director Michael Zorc. This is reminiscent of the trust under former BVB coach Jürgen Klopp.
