Thanks to Beckham: Miami on the way to becoming the new football power

Football has so far played a completely subordinate role in Miami (approx. 5,5 million inhabitants). David Beckham wants to get off to a flying start in the highest North American soccer league (MLS) with the newly founded club Inter Miami. The former football icon has big goals as a club owner. Inter Miami is supposed to be the future top club in the USA and can give a real fight to, for example, the Seattle Sounders, LA Galaxy or Atlanta United. He doesn't pursue this goal alone, as there are 4 other owners. But of course the hopes rest primarily on Beckham's shoulders. His reputation will be used to attract football stars from all over the world to Miami. Mixture of stars and our own youth players The focus is primarily on Spanish-speaking players, as the majority of Miami residents speak Spanish. This way the fans could identify with the players better. The Beckham club's current king transfer is Rodolfo Pizarro. A transfer fee of almost 11 million euros was paid for the services of the Mexican international. But the first two games (2 defeats) in the Eastern Conference went wrong. This is one of the reasons why Inter Miami is continuing to work on its squad during the current break. With David Silva, whose contract with Manchester City expires in the summer, a new midfield director is soon to move to the Latino capital.

But the primary goal of David Beckham and Inter Miami is to have players from their own youth in their ranks in the future. “The proudest moment for us and our fans will be when a young talent comes through our own academy and then plays in the MLS,” Beckham said in an interview with the US television network CNN . But why did England's football legend, who played for LA Galaxy in the MLS, choose Miami as the home base for his football club? “We have an incredible fan base with a diverse culture that represents what Miami is all about. For example, people's emotionality and creativity. We want to keep that. That’s what’s special about Miami and South Florida,” Beckham said. He might be right about that. Thanks to the football-loving Latino community, there were many fans even at the training camp in Tampa (around 4 hours' drive from Miami).

Due to the corona crisis, Inter Miami has to wait for its first home game in the MLS. The opening of the new stadium was planned for March 14th as part of the first home game. But “Becks” didn’t want to wait forever and – together with his family – has already introduced the Inter Miami Stadium to his fans via Instagram. The new jewelry box offers space for 18.000 fans.
