Members' vote: Hoffmann new HSV president

Hamburg (SID) Bernd Hoffmann (55) is the new president of Hamburger SV. The business graduate prevailed against the incumbent Jens Meier at the general meeting and is returning to the top of the North German club. "I'm happy that our team won. We have a big task ahead of us to convince those who were against us," said Hoffmann. He thinks continuity, as postulated by incumbent Meier, is "the wrong option. We will put everything in the AG to the test." Hoffmann, who was CEO of the Bundesliga football club from 2003 to 2011, received 585 votes in the club's vote on Sunday, 25 more than his opponent Meier (560 votes). Through his election as club head, Hoffmann also receives a seat on the footballers' supervisory board according to the club's statutes and thus has direct influence on the Fußball-AG, in which HSV eV is the largest shareholder with 76,19 percent. Thomas Schulz (Vice President) and Moritz Schaefer (Vice President and Treasurer) complete the association's new executive board, which was elected for four years. Around 78.000 members from more than 30 departments were called to elect the highest body, and 1159 cast their votes on Sunday. There were 14 abstentions.
