Montan celebrates its football legends

Michael Cia, together with Mayor Monika Delvai Hilber, carried out the symbolic kick-off. The FCS figurehead is just the last and probably most prominent footballer from the 1.500-strong community of Montan, which has already produced former professional Daniel Pfitscher and many other high-class amateur players before him. But for once they were not the focus of this elaborately organized evening. The big stage at the Castelfeder sports field went to the founding fathers of the small-field team AH Montan and the current players.

After a minute's silence for founding member Hubert Saltuari, who died in July 2014, both teams battled it out for 40 minutes in a hard-fought but fair duel. The Old Lions once again showed their class, made up a 0-2 deficit and won the subsequent penalty shootout 4-3. Remo Cia, Klaus Pfitscher, Dieter Pfitscher and Günther Jageregger converted safely from the spot and, like hardened rabbits in their heyday, they coldly put the youngsters in their place. The meeting of legends was led by VSS referee Sepp Malojer.

At the barbecue that followed, we celebrated together, told old stories, reminisced and unpacked anecdotes. This is how an evening ended that football fans will remember for a long time.

Montan celebrates its football legends

On Friday a very special football meeting took place in Montan. Former greats from the Unterlandler club competed against current players from the small-field team. And right in the middle: a professional from FC Südtirol.
