Only finals left for FC Südtirol

These days, coach Maurizio Pellegrino keeps repeating the same sentence: “We have to fight and believe in direct relegation as long as it is mathematically possible.” With this statement, the new trainer from Sicily wants to wake up his players and give them courage. During Pellegrino's debut in the dugout on Monday a week ago, things sometimes worked very well: thanks to a compact team performance, the FCS took a 2-0 lead away against Spal, but still managed to score two more goals in the second half of the game.

The White-Reds have been waiting for a full point win since December 12th and eleven championship games. Due to the weekend without games, Pellegrino had plenty of time to prepare his players for the season finale. On Thursday, the emergency will be rehearsed again in a test game in Neumarkt.

In the remaining six matches, the five-point gap to the safe shore should be made up for. In football language, important encounters are quickly exaggerated into “finals”, but due to the numerous direct duels, this term seems more appropriate than ever in the case of FC Südtirol.

Mandatory win against the bottom of the table

The start takes place on Sunday in the home game against bottom of the table Monza. In the first half of the season, the FCS celebrated a spectacular 4-3 win against the Lombards. The best player on the field at the time was double goalscorer Alessandro Campo, but he will have to pass on Sunday due to his eighth yellow card. Nevertheless, a “threesome” in the home game against Monza is mandatory. Also in order to gain self-confidence before the next direct relegation duel on the following match day in Pergocrema. Hannes Kiem and Co. then face two difficult hurdles with Sorrento (home) and Lumezzane (away).

The decision in the relegation battle will probably be made on the last two match days. Then FC Südtirol will welcome the Pavia players in the Drusus Stadium and then play against Paganese. Both teams are also involved in the relegation battle and will therefore do everything they can to avoid the threat of falling into the fourth division or at least to gain an advantageous starting position for the impending play-out encounters. So there is plenty of explosiveness in the final spurt of the season.
