Oberliga 2014/15: This is SSV Ahrntal – VIDEO

The northernmost league club relies on local talent. 20 players in the 22-man squad are from Ahrntal and the coach, Jürgen Großgasteiger, also comes from “Toule”. For years, people in the Ahrntal have been consistently working with their own youth - and now the SSV is reaping the benefits. Only Franz Pittschieler and Philipp Aichner come from away, but according to the club, they fit in perfectly with the team both personally and in terms of their attitude.

Coach Großgasteiger is entering his second season at SSV Ahrntal. The former captain of the fighting team, who has long been an icon in Ahrntal, has received reinforcements on the sidelines: Patrick Kofler has hung up his football boots and is now acting as assistant coach. The duo have been preparing intensively with the team since mid-July and are now starting the new season full of confidence. The team is not yet in top form, as a poor performance in the cup game against Stegen underlines, but it shouldn't be too long before the "Teldra" engine is running.

As far as the basic structure is concerned, the squad has remained roughly the same as last year. Nevertheless, Ahrntal had to cope with a few departures. Jonas Unterkircher moved to Stegen, Jan Plaickner to Kiens, Thomas Mair is taking a break for work reasons and Florian Niederkofler has to stop due to a long-term injury. Stefan Huber will also no longer wear the Ahrntal jersey, but his destination is unknown.

As far as additions are concerned, Reinhard Oberschmied was unable to lure a defensive specialist to Toule as desired. With Maximilian Hofer (Steinhaus), Manuel Zimmerhofer (Bozner FC) and five of our own junior players, the squad has been filled with hungry young talents who now want to prove their quality in the top league.

As in previous years, Ahrntal has set itself the goal of staying in the league. “In recent years we knew that it could be a little more than just staying in the league. This year, with this very young team, it will be a bit more difficult. But we are very confident that we will stay in class,” said sports director Oberschmied.

The “hit” against Tramin at the start of the League A on Sunday in front of our own audience comes at just the right time. A real yardstick that shows where the team actually stands after one and a half months of preparation for the season.
