Oberliga 2014/15: This is SSV Brixen – VIDEO

SSV Brixen will contest the league championship for the 15th time in a row. With a new coach on the sidelines: Martin Wachtler, who has coached the Bischofstädter juniors for the past two seasons, is taking over the reins from Martin Gasser. Wachtler, who played in the first team for Brixen for many years and still knows some of the players from his time as an active player, has a squad that has changed in many parts.

The sporting director, Matthias Fiwickeler, was able to sign Simon Mair, who was under contract with Tramin last season, as goalkeeper. The Mühlbacher, who grew up at FC Südtirol, no longer wanted to make the long journeys into the lowlands and found a perfect solution in Brixen. Lukas Obkircher is also moving from FC Südtirol to the Bischofstadt. He should strengthen the defense. In the attack, however, the Brixen team relies on Cesare Scaratti. The man from Bolzano was the top scorer in the national league two years ago. After an unfortunate season with Merano, which culminated in relegation to the 1st Amateur League, Scaratti was looking for a new challenge. Luca Varoli was brought in from Klausen, while eight junior players were also added to the first team.

The Brixen team was hurt by the departure of Martin Ritsch. The dangerous midfielder will put on the ASC St. Georgen jersey next season. Philipp Knoflach (Plose), Simon Larcher (Milland), Michael Rottensteiner (destination unknown), Armin Mayr (Eppan), Johannes Seeber (Albeins) and Hansjörg Mair (St. Pauls) are no longer playing in Brixen.

The Eisacktalers were particularly hit by bad luck with injuries. Lukas Obkircher had to have his appendix removed, Manuel Prossliner broke his metacarpal bone in a preparation tournament, Dennis Fanani got it in his ankle, Thomas Ritsch had to have surgery on his cruciate ligament and Dennis Nagler is currently recovering from a fracture of his fibula that he suffered at the end of the first half of the season of the past year.

In contrast to last year, SSV Brixen does not give its fighting team any specific goals. “If you give the team a goal that is too high, then it can have an inhibiting effect on the players’ performance,” believes team leader Konrad Markart. First and foremost, Wachtler and his boys should ensure they stay in the league. Everything else will be seen. The opening program for Brixen is difficult, with the two away games in St. Georgen and Comano, before the first match in front of their own audience against Calciochiese on the third match day.
