Oberliga 2014/15: This is Virtus Don Bosco – VIDEO

No matter which South Tyrolean coach, player or official was asked about the favorites to win the league championship - the name Virtus Don Bosco always came up. No wonder: the Bolzano suburb club provides its new coach Roberto Cortese with a high-quality squad, with doubles in almost every position, that all other trainers only dream of.

Virtus Don Bosco brought in eleven players, and just as many have left the traditional Bolzano club. Most of the players who left were part of the team that secured promotion from the regional league to the top league. But a replacement was hired for her who played in higher leagues. In the coming season, for example, ex-professionals such as Thomas Frendo, Jonas Clementi and Daniele Speziale will be donning the Bolzano club's uniform. When it came to signings, Virtus Don Bosco attached great importance to bringing in young, hungry players from Bolzano and the surrounding area.

Cortese's biggest challenge will be to form a team out of these many individual talents. The Bolzano trainer, who led St. Martin to stay in the league last year, is fully aware of this. “We are a nice group off the field, but on the field we are not yet a team. That will definitely last until the middle of the first half of the season,” believes Cortese.

The goal of the Green-Whites is clear. Virtus Don Bosco wants to get into Serie D in the medium term, i.e. in the next three years. “For us, the upper league is just a stopover. In the next three years we would like to get into the next higher league. But of course we have nothing against it if we succeed this year,” explains Virtus President Robert Oberrauch.

At the start there will be a promotion duel. Virtus Don Bosco is a guest in St. Pauls. For both teams, it is an initial yardstick that will allow both teams to know roughly where they stand at the start of the season.
