Oberliga: The South Tyrolean teams under the SportNews microscope

Will be in the title race… ST. GEORGE: The cherry was always missing from the cake of two outstanding seasons. Two second places with knockout blows in the play-offs have left their mark on the Georgen football soul. Nevertheless: The core of the team stayed together, the veterans are still in their prime football age, and Alex Ziviani, a midfield strategist, also returned. All indications are that the “Jergina” can be found at the top of the table again this year. The championship title can only be won by St. Georgen or Trent. The duel will extend until the end of the season. As always, whether the big coup will work this time depends on the details - and on whether the start of the season is successful for “Jergina”.

In the front midfield there are… BOZNER FC: Third place last year wasn't a flash in the pan. The Talferstadt team had to let go of some top-class players on the offensive over the summer months (Degasperi ended his career, Saltuari went to Sarntal), but they strengthened themselves at certain points with talented players (Krasniqi, Bedendo, Drescher, Prünster). Fabio Bertoldi will be crucial. He had his best season last year and is still in his prime football age. If he stays in this form, then a place in the top four teams is possible again this year.

TRAMINE: With Max Dalpiaz, the Unterlanders landed the most spectacular transfer in the league. The attack line Elis Kaptina-Max Dalpiaz-Daniel Pfitscher-Alex Pfitscher-Martin Pichler, along with that of AC Trento, is one of the best the league has to offer. The start could turn out to be crucial: at the start of the championship, the Tramin team will face Trent, St. Georgen, Naturns and Bozner FC - a mammoth program that will have a trend-setting effect on the entire season. After a mixed season, Tramin rehabilitated itself in the summer and can even achieve a top 5 place in the championship.

SSV BRIXEN: After last year's season of bankruptcies, bad luck and mishaps, the Eisacktal Oberliga's long-running favorite is in a mood for compensation. With Luca Consalvo, the missing snapper from last season was attracted, and Alfredo Sebastiani, the best coach in the entire league, will be on the Eisacktaler sidelines in the future. It probably won't be enough to get to the top. The young players' self-confidence is still too weak for that after last year. A first step towards the long-term goal of “Series D” can definitely be taken with a placement in the front midfield.

They settle in the secure midfield... EPPAN: Stefan Clementi's goals (13 last year) will certainly be missed by the Eppan team. Nevertheless, coach Massimo Nanni's team can build on a well-rehearsed and powerful basic structure (Iardino, Avancini, Leqiki brothers), which in attack with new signings Willy Amofah and Michael Osti (20 goals in the previous season) has the potential for a place in the top Half of the table gets breathed into it. With a top 5 place, Eppan not only surprised numerous experts but also itself last year. It will be difficult to repeat last year's performance, but Eppan still has what it takes to play a championship again in the calm waters of the midfield.

NATURNS: Last year's fourth place was a club record - and proved how important a good start to the season is. There were no major changes in the Naturns squad in the summer, if only in the coaching bench, where Roberto Cortese is now in charge. The big bonus point of promotion euphoria no longer exists this year. Nevertheless, Naturns is a tight-knit team made up of local players who, based on their qualities, can place themselves beyond good and evil.

ST. MARTIN: For two seasons in a row, the Mortiners ended up in sixth place in the secure midfield. The squad only changed minimally in the summer, only a lot happened in the attack: Hansi Mair left the club, and in his place came preferred candidate Maurizio Foldi, who, together with a fit Daniel Lanthaler, is basically St. Martin's life insurance. With the routine, the cohesion and the outstanding skills of some players, St. Martin is and remains a midfield team.

Lands in the back midfield... TOP CORN: The state league champion from last year went through a little change in the summer. With Renè Pomarè, one of the best goalkeepers in the province has been signed, and we can also look forward to striker Bogdan Ungureanu, who has already played in the Romanian second division. A large part of the squad is very familiar with the major league, and coach Martin Klotzner is a shrewd perfectionist. Obermais wants to establish itself again in the top regional league in the long term. The people of Meran bring the quality and the absolute will to achieve this. This year the path will probably lead to the back secured midfield.

It's getting tight for... AHRNTAL: The Teldra are also considered a candidate for relegation this year. They have been proving for years that they can live well with this role. “Experts” often predicted Ahrntal relegation before the start of the season, but in the end the Teldra always proved them wrong. The incredible comeback last year showed how strong the cohesion is in Toule. The Teldra certainly have the potential to stay in the league, after all, a well-known striker, Philipp Aichner, was brought back, and Manuel Pipperger is on the mend after his cruciate ligament operation. And the solidarity is still great in the ninth year of the league.

WINE ROAD SOUTH: The Unterlanders are entering their first league season in the club's history. With the strikers Federico Marchi and Claudio Barbetti as well as goalkeeper Michele Poli, the Unterlanders brought in three players who have been tried and tested in the top league. Otherwise, the squad consists almost entirely of local players. The Oberliga endeavor will be difficult, and the club management knows that. Staying in the league is therefore the top priority. Weinstraße Süd has to fight for this with all its might from the very first second. Then the surprise could work.
