Oberliga: first round report card, part 1

SportNews presents the half-time report card in a three-part series, but this does not determine whether a team will ultimately be promoted or whether the year will have to be repeated. In the first part, St. Georgen, Bozner FC and St. Pauls collect their proof of performance.

St. Georgen (1st place, 38 points)

The “Jergina” are the class leaders – and not just because they lead the league table with 38 points. But also because they received the best grade from SportNews. Some coaches and board members had the traditional Puster club on their list when they were asked in the summer who was the championship favorite. But the majority believed that Virtus Don Bosco and Levico were the biggest contenders for the title. They have now been proven wrong - at least after the first half of the season. St. Georgen has the most homogeneous squad of all Oberliga clubs, and a strong collective distinguishes the leaders. Coach Morini can choose from 18 to 20 more or less equal players and adapt his team to the characteristics of the opponent. In Thomas Piffrader he has a joker up front who always stings and who, with eleven goals, has already partly followed in the great footsteps left by Jack Degasperi. The young attacker is definitely one of the most positive surprises of the entire first half of the season.

Bozner FC (8th place, 21 points)

The Talferstadt team can look back on a satisfactory first half of the season – even if they lost the last two games. With a total of 21 points, Toccoli's team has collected 12 more points than they did a year ago. This means that the “Oranges”, who had to do without their “top star” Jack Degasperi for a large part of the first half of the season (defensive chief Bernardo Ceravolo was also missing for a long time due to injury), can take things a little easier in the second half of the season than last year. If there's one thing you can accuse the young Bolzano team of, it's their lack of consistency. There were outstanding performances, such as the 4-0 derby win against Virtus Don Bosco. But then blackouts again cost three points that were believed to be safe, like in the home game against Salurn, when Max Dalpiaz completely turned the match around within a few minutes in stoppage time. It will be interesting to see how Bozner FC will present itself in the spring when Flavio Toccoli can field the “miracle storm” Bertoldi and Degasperi.

Salurn (15th place, 15 points)

The Unterlanders' first half of the season must be examined in two separate parts. First, the period in which Marco Bertoncini was in charge on the sidelines. The yellow-reds only got five points in nine games and were already considered the second relegated team alongside Fersina. And finally from the moment Yuri Pellegrini took over the helm. If the Salurners' performance was unsatisfactory under Bertoncini, the change of coach could perhaps have been the turning point that will allow the Oberliga Dino to remain in the top regional league for the 40th time next year. “We want to have fun” – with these words Pellegrini began his service in his hometown of Unterland. And Max Dalpiaz & Co. seemed to have found this fun again. Salurn collected ten points in the remaining six games under Pellegrini. What should further fuel the hopes of the traditional club from the south of South Tyrol is the fact that they have all won their last three games. In any case, the enthusiasm has returned. This is also supported by this fact: Training will continue in Salurn until December 20th. And after the Christmas holidays it continues on January 3rd. The Unterlanders, they smelled a fuse...

Oberliga: first round report card, part 1

After 92 days and 15 matchdays, the first half of the league season came to an end on Sunday. With many positive surprises, but also some bitter disappointments.
