Oberliga: first round report card, part 3

SportNews presents the half-time report card in a three-part series, but this does not determine whether a team will ultimately be promoted or whether the year will have to be repeated. In the third part, Brixen, Tramin, St. Martin and St. Pauls collect their proof of performance.

SSV Brixen (6th place, 23 points)

Seen as a team, the Bischofstadters were the most positive surprise of the entire first half of the season. Under new coach Martin Wachtler, fighting spirit, team unity and an irrepressible will to win have returned to Brixen. The new season started with a bang: the blue-whites inflicted their only defeat of the first half of the season on leaders St. Georgen - on the first matchday. After the sixth round, Brixen fell into a small hole, but four successes in a row followed between the eleventh and 14th matchdays. The highlight of the Brixen team is the defense around goalie Simon Mair, who is the hoped-for reinforcement and, together with his front men, more than meets the high expectations with only 14 goals conceded. If Brixen continues as before in the second half of the season, then the foundation has been laid for an even more successful future. Rating: 8

Tramin (5th place, 26 points)

Tramin completed a more than appealing first half of the season - even without regular goalkeeper Simon Mair (switched to Brixen), Defense Minister Michael Palma (went to Neumarkt) and top attacker Daniel Pfitscher (he took a break), who, however, made his comeback in the second half of the season and with his successor Matys Goller will form one of the most dangerous strike duos in the league. The Pomella team collected 26 points, three more than last year. Due to the high-profile departures - part of the core structure left the club in the summer - a good performance. If the Unterlanders bring the sheep into the dry with similar consistency in the second half of the season, then a top position is possible again. Just like last year, when Tramin took third place with 49 points.

St. Martin (9th place, 20 points)

Rock solid. You can sum up the “Mortiner” first half of the season with just one word. With one exception: the 0:5 in Ala on matchday 9. In this match, the Passeirians were completely out of place, Alense's attackers played cat and mouse with the St. Martin defense. What is striking is that the Saltuari team is obviously playing under the motto “All or Nothing” this year – there were only two draws in 15 games. The “Mortiners” got better and better towards the end of the first half of the season. Brugger & Co. already showed good performances in the matches against the top clubs Virtus Don Bosco and leaders St. Georgen, but they were not rewarded and ended in narrow defeats. The big bang came at the end of the first half of the season, thanks to the 5-1 away win at table neighbors Comano.

St. Pauls (15th place, 14 points)

The “Paulsner” have moved from the regional league to the top league – but haven’t quite gotten there yet. 14 points and second-to-last place are simply not what many experts expected from St. Pauls before the season. The Blue and Whites were always realistic from the start and set their goal of staying in the league. This goal is still possible at half time. As a relief for the poor yield for the Überetscher team, it can be said that they have to do without numerous top performers (Bovolenta, Stein, Sinn, ...) due to very serious injuries. But even without these players, St. Pauls could have scored a few more points if it hadn't been for the many individual mistakes. Added to this is the weakness in the offensive end. Because Paulsner's game is often nice to watch right up to the opponent's penalty area. But the ball doesn't want to go over the line. The three games in the English week best illustrate how erratic the performances were. On Sunday, October 12th there was a 0-4 defeat at home against Levico. Then came a 4-1 away win at Bozner FC on Wednesday with a brief high in spirits. By Sunday at the latest, sadness was in order again when Ahrntal rolled down the promoted team 1:4. There simply has to be more if St. Pauls wants to stay in the top league in 2015/16. There is not enough for this first half of the season. With a “+” for the victory in the basement duel with Fersina on the last match day, which should serve as a motivational boost for the second half of the season.

Oberliga: first round report card, part 3

After 92 days and 15 matchdays, the first half of the league season came to an end on Sunday. With many positive surprises, but also some bitter disappointments.
