Oberliga: Naturns and FC Obermais dig up the hatchet

What the Naturnsers are denouncing is the toxic atmosphere that is said to have prevailed in Obermais even before the game began. In particular, a banner that was hung at the Lahn sports field in front of the cabin entrance by the “Curva Sud” fan club with the inscription “Give them nothing – take everything from them!” angered the people of Nature. “The information that the Obermaisers were excited about this game by the coaches and those around them, like no other before, had already reached Naturns,” write the blue-yellow team on their official website. “Two weeks ago, the “Schnöseln aus Naturns” and the “S(cheiss)SV-lern” wrote in the stadium newspaper “Lahn Megaphon” to heat up the mood,” the text continues.

The guests were abused during the game. “In the game, some FCO players went to work as if they were in a ring. Some attacks were aimed solely at the opponent, with the clear intention of injuring them. Daniel Bernard was only warned after a few minutes for a red-worthy foul and should have been sent off after three more rude fouls after just 20 to 30 minutes. Players like Harald Kiem lacked any respect and even refused to shake hands. Obermais didn't want to win this game, he just wanted to trip up the SSV. This became particularly clear in the final phase, when Naturns pressed for the winning goal and the hosts wasted excessive amounts of time in order to keep the draw over time. “The second expression of Obermaiser’s unsportsmanlike behavior,” continues the Naturns indictment, which was published on Monday evening.

Obermais, the moral apostle They, the Obermais, are nothing other than moral apostles. “In recent years, FC Obermais has always presented itself as a model club due to its undisputed sporting achievements. The men around President Richard Stampfl were very happy to act as moral apostles. And they prided themselves on having the best fans in South Tyrol football,” says author “Tschiggo”.

As an alibi, the officials distanced themselves from the actions of their fans, who were said to have scorned the Naturns players and coaches “far below the belt” during the game. “However, we know that the club board generously supports the fan scene and is very close to it. This does a disservice to sport in its original sense and to the development of young people. Not to mention the influence on the relationship with other clubs and their spectators,” writes SSV Naturns.

Naturns declares Obermais an enemy “In any case, since FC Meran was relegated from the top league in recent years, FC Obermais has chosen SSV Naturns as its enemy. Until yesterday, the FCO was a sporting rival for Naturns and the hostility at various levels was never returned. As of May 12, 2013, the Obermaisers have apparently managed to establish themselves as an enemy of the FCO on the Naturns side too! It’s a shame about sport…” the text concludes.

Obermais President Richard Stampfl: “We have nothing to blame” Richard Stampfl puts the statements of the Naturnsians into perspective. “Should we have fielded the junior team? Definitely not. We don't make deals, we've never done that before. We have always behaved fairly and I certainly don't have a bad conscience. In my opinion, the match against Naturns was a tough but fair game. I don't even want to go into details, like Daniel Bernard's allegedly too hard foul. We wanted to say goodbye to the league on Sunday and played for a win. Naturns had it in its own hands to win this match, but missed too many chances,” explains Stampfl.

Regarding the behavior of the “Curva Sud” fan club, the Obermais president says: “The “Curva” certainly provoked with the banner and the addition “Take everything from them” is perhaps not entirely happy. But I think there are much worse banners in football. The “Curva” is an independent club that doesn’t allow itself to be interfered with. If they overdo it, if it goes below the belt, as happened against Meran in the past, then I intervene. But as I said, I don't consider this banner to be that bad. I can't judge what the fans shouted onto the pitch during the game. You can’t always hear everything on the opposite side.”

Stampfl can understand that the Naturnsers are very frustrated after missing out on relegation. “Some officials insulted us after the game, but I’ve already forgotten about that. Maybe they’ll stay at the top of the league,” Stampfl concludes.

Naturns can hope In fact, it cannot be ruled out that the Naturns team will still play in the top league next season. This could be the case if Fersina and Mezzocorona merge or AC Trento is brought back to Serie D (“ripescaggio”). However, a decision in this regard is not expected before the end of July. What is certain, however, is that the relationship between FC Obermais and SSV Naturns remains broken for the time being.
