TOP LEAGUE SERIES | St. Martin: 22 fists for staying in the league

After the change of coach (Martin Saltuari threw in the towel, Klaus Schuster took over) in October, the team experienced a jolt, the “I-be-me” feeling was rekindled and bore fruit, especially in the second half of the season. With 21 points (for comparison: there were 13 in the first half of the season) they shot themselves out of the bottom of the table and wrapped up staying in the league a few games before the end.

In the Passeier Valley we know that staying in the league has the highest priority this year too. The transfer market also acted accordingly: with Renè Pomarè, the departure of regular goalkeeper Christian Platter was qualitatively compensated for, in attack Max Lanthaler (15 state league goals last year) gets a chance in the league and in midfield Luca Foldi was a strong Saltuari replacement (he goes to FC Tirol). None other than the coaching fox Roberto Pignatelli is in charge on the sidelines.

The trainer Roberto Pignatelli. His game is very physical and he finds the ideal platform for this in St. Martin. He can also look back on years of major league experience and feels like he knows every single opposing player in the highest regional league.

The player René Pomare. He commands respect from his opponents simply through his physical bouncer presence. He is also equipped with excellent goalkeeper tools and therefore has the best prerequisites to eliminate the defensive weakness of the “Mortiner” (68 goals conceded last year - the weakest figure in the entire league).

The goal Staying in the league will be a priority again this year. After the Passeirians looked deeply into the eyes of the specter of relegation a few times last year, but were able to drive it away in the end, the season should be quieter this year. But the start of the championship must not go wrong again.

If the team were celebrities, then... Bud Spencer & Terence Hill. Quick-witted, physically strong and, last but not least, a close-knit team that can deal with even the trickiest and most hopeless situations. Then a “Four fists for a Hallelujah” – or “22 legs for staying in the league”.

For a short time last year it seemed that the Passeirers were going back down a league after four league seasons, after all they were at the bottom of the table after four match days without any points. But then the characteristic that is so typical of the “Mortiner” emerged once again.
