Hoffmann, who was chairman of the Bundesliga-2003 from 2011 to 17, is running for the general meeting. was active, initially in the fight for the presidency against the current incumbent Jens Meier. Under Hoffmann's leadership, HSV played successfully in the Champions League and Europa League for several years. The Rhinelander currently sees numerous construction sites at the traditional club that is threatened with relegation: "There is only one table where HSV is in the lead. That is the decline in spectators. We have seen a dramatic decline in the club in recent years. You can only get that turned around if you have top people." Another long-time designer at HSV does not see Hoffmann as a top talent at all. Former President Jürgen Hunke had already spoken out vehemently against Hoffmann's comeback on Sunday. "The problems started with him. At the beginning there was sporting success, but then a lot of debt arose. We haven't recovered from that," said the long-time HSV supervisory board member, HSV president from 1990 to 1993, in a one-two on Sport1 on Sunday.
