Regional tournament: Juniors win, women get one point

With heart and mind, the junior team beat Sicily 1-0. Sicily has always played an important role in the regional tournament for years. The team led by coach Harald Kiem started the game well. With the first attack and Bacher's cross into the penalty area, the referee decided on a penalty after a handball. Koni stepped up, but the Sicilian goalkeeper was able to defuse his sharp penalty, which was shot too centrally. The rebound remained in the penalty area and Koni failed with his follow-up shot off the back of an opponent. This rebound ultimately landed on Bacher, who put the ball in the goal and made Koni forget about his missed shot. The Sicilian team was shocked and Koni had the next opportunity in the 8th minute, but the opposing goalkeeper was there.

Koni continued to be the focus of the South Tyrolean team's attacks. After a tough duel, the attacker had to be treated for a short time for a laceration and re-entered the field with his head bandaged before he finally had to leave the field after 29 minutes. To be on the safe side, the player was taken to hospital where the wound was treated professionally. Without their most noticeable player, the selection fought on courageously. After a little more than half an hour, the Sicilians had a good opportunity. Mafrè Cataldi played a good pass to Damico, who was positioned in a promising position, but Piz was able to block his shot in the South Tyrolean team's goal. Piz was able to excel again when Talotta had an opportunity.

In the second half, Sicily did everything they could to at least equalize, but the South Tyrolean team was too confident to withstand the pressure. When Talotta shot, the players around coach Kiem had luck on their side when the ball hit the crossbar. Tomorrow the game in Pescara against Abruzzo is on the program. After second place last year in Trentino, expectations for the women's selection are very high this year too. The greatly rejuvenated team started the regional tournament with a goalless draw against Sicily. Coach Fabio Pelanda's team sold their skin expensively against the very aggressive team from Sicily and tried to force their game on the Sicilian team. In the first half, Erlacher and Zöschg had the best scoring opportunities, and they didn't hit the empty goal. The opponents responded with a few long shots, but they posed little danger.

In the second half, the Sicilians were similarly aggressive, but the South Tyroleans also knew how to deal with this situation correctly. Erlacher and Mair had good opportunities to make a decision in the second section. “Overall, the draw is fair,” said coach Pelanda after the game, “even though we had the better opportunities but couldn’t convert them into goals.”

Regional tournament: Juniors win, women get one point

After the A and B youth teams, the South Tyrolean junior team and women's team also started the regional tournament in Abruzzo. While the juniors had a perfect start, the women had a draw.
