Roland Harrasser: “Legnano lulled us”

SportNews: Mr. Harrasser, have you already digested the elimination? Roland Harrasser: Already. But yesterday (Sunday, editor's note) the first hour after the final whistle was pretty bitter. It hurt to see the Legnano players celebrating on our pitch. But the many fans in St. Georgen cheered us up afterwards and showered us with compliments. That felt good. And if you consider that as a small village club we were able to keep up with a traditional club like Legnano until the last second, then everything becomes a little easier.

The second leg started anything but perfectly for “Jergina”. What did you think when the referee pointed to the penalty spot after just four minutes?

I immediately thought of last year's playoff game when I knocked down an opponent after a few minutes. But after conceding the goal we stayed calm. Basically not that much has changed for us. We just had to score two goals instead of one.

Then came captain Rovrena's dismissal and Orfanello's equalizer...

Exactly, and shortly after the restart Putzer scored the important 2-1. After that we got the better of the opponent, but the decisive blow never came. Legnano managed to lull us and save the 2-1 with relatively little effort over time.

In extra time you had the impression that Legnano wanted to make the preliminary decision...

That's correct. They pressed especially in the first half. But we also played a bit sloppily and had to waste a lot of meters because we produced a lot of bad passes. Legnano gained a lot of self-confidence in this phase. After our guests were sent off for the second time, we didn't even have time to say 'let's score the third goal' because the bell had already rung in our box. After the 2-2 score our heads were empty - even though we still had a few chances.

What is your balance this season with St. Georgen?

What can I say? We have collected 129 points in the last two years. With 60 championship games, this corresponds to an average of 2,15 points per game. This is a sensational value. And yet another team was even better than St. Georgen in both seasons. I think we didn't do everything wrong.

In terms of sport, it was just not enough to get promoted. Nevertheless, St. Georgen could possibly be “brought back” to Serie D…

The chances of this are certainly not bad. But that is a decision the club will make in the next few weeks.

The season has already been very long. So far we have had 201 attendances last year with training, test games and official matches. That's an incredible amount. But today (Monday) it's time to freak out and then we'll have to bite our teeth for another two weeks. I'm really looking forward to this event.

The sting of disappointment is of course deep for St. Georgen after the unfortunate 2-2 draw after extra time against AC Legnano in the final second leg of the promotion playoff. SportNews spoke to captain Roland Harrasser about the “game of games”.
