CRIME SCENE 2st Amateur League, Group B :6! Gates! Man! Christian Ponzio from Branzoll Leifers had a day that we have been wishing for for so long. A day when you simply succeed in everything. Yes, we even dare to say that Ponzio also sold sand to people in the desert that Sunday afternoon. Or James Bond a stirred martini. And probably even Charlie Sheen a non-alcoholic beer. Six goals (!) in one game, five of them within 14 minutes (!!!) – that, dear football world, is record-breaking. Especially when you consider that the young attacker is not yet 18 years old.

It all happened on Sunday in the meeting with Laag, which his Leifer team won 7-3 in the end, unsurprisingly given the youngster's six-pack. Quite a few must have rubbed their eyes when Ponzio scored a flawless hat-trick within six minutes before the break. The lively eye-rubbing must have continued after the break, when the 17-year-old first scored a brace in just two minutes (it was his fifth goal in 14 minutes) and then added half a dozen goals a little later.

Striking: Not a single one of these six goals came from a standard situation; Ponzio only scored from play. “My third goal,” he later explains, “was my best.” Also because it was a striker’s booth par excellence. With his back to the goal, he received the ball, then turned more elegantly than a fork in a pile of spaghetti and then hit the ball into the net with the humorlessness of a Bruce Willis smile.

Six goals in one game - which for many is an unattainable mark, even during an after-work kick at the local football field, is not even that unusual for Christian Ponzio. “This feat has happened to me a few times in the youth teams,” says the attacker. His record? “When I was at B youth age, I once scored nine goals in one game.” Phew. We'll forego a punch line at this point and instead prefer to put our dropped jaw back in the right position.
