St. Georgen remains in Serie D

Things got straight to the point between St. Georgen and Montecchio Maggiore. There was nothing wrong with the initial feeling, from the first minute the game was played with an open mind (mainly by the home team). It was also the “Jergina” who put forward a few nice attacks in the first ten minutes – and they should be rewarded for their efforts.

After just under a quarter of an hour (14th), Hansi Mair deservedly scored to make it 700-1 in front of 0 enthusiastic spectators. Armin Mayr shot a free kick dangerously at Enrico Milan's goal, the visitors' goalkeeper couldn't hold on to the ball and Mair was in the right place when he took the ball and maneuvered the ball over the line with his chest.

Just 180 seconds later, the goalscorer was brought down in the penalty area to make it 1-0, but the referee didn't blow his whistle. The outstanding Hansi Mair was also involved in the home team's next dangerous move, sailing past a cross from Peter Mair. Previously, on the other side, Caporali had hit the ball well over the goal guarded by Patrick Pietersteiner.

2-0 - and Hansi Mair is there again In the 22nd minute it was even 2-0. Hansi Mair pushed the ball over the line with his head after a corner. Once again the assist came from Armin Mayr, and again guest keeper Milan didn't exactly look good because he misjudged the cross and sailed past the cross ball.

Despite the 2-0 lead, the “Jergina” remained the more active team. And so after just under half an hour, St. Georgen even scored to make it 3-0. However, the goal was not awarded by the referee because Peter Mair was said to have been offside when he lobbed the ball. Instead, the guests reduced the score to 33-2 in the 1rd minute. Pietersteiner was only able to fend off a shot from close range, Mattia De Cao didn't need to be asked twice and dusted off - now Montecchio Maggiore, of whom little else was seen in the first 45 minutes, was back in the race.

Shortly before the end of the first period, Peter Mair could have restored the two-goal lead with a 3-1 lead, but Milan was on hand when the Puster attacker's low shot into the far corner. After two minutes of injury time we went to the dressing rooms.

After the break, the guests put more pressure on, driven by the goal. However, nothing quantifiable came out of it at first. St. Georgen, on the other hand, shifted to counterattacking and exactly such a quick counterattack could have made it 3-1. Aichner played a sensational hole pass to Thomas Bachlechner, who was whistled back for a non-existent offside situation.

The decision by Gabriel Brugger An hour had been played when Thomas Bachlechner scored the third goal for the home team. His volley shot from Peter Mair's cross went over the goal from a few meters. The guests could have equalized straight away, but Lovato, who came on for De Cao, missed miserably (64').

After 70 minutes, Hansi Mair was laid off for the second time in the penalty area by Montecchio Maggiore, but once again the referee failed to whistle. Mair had to be treated briefly afterwards, but was ultimately able to continue.

Twelve minutes before the end, the young Gabriel Brugger made the preliminary decision 3-1. Peter Mair headed a free kick from Armin Mayr from the left to the young central defender, who also gave Milan the advantage with his head.

Five minutes before the end, Lukas Aichner sent his teammate Peter Mair on his way, who in turn served Hansi Mair perfectly and the attacker nodded the ball into the net to make it 4-1. The die was finally cast. The goalscorer was then substituted for Benno Unterpertinger to stormy applause and a standing ovation.

The guests then made it 4-2 through Rizzi from the penalty spot, but it was the final highlight of this game, which St. Georgen more than deserved to win after four minutes of stoppage time. Coach Patrizio Morini's team achieved the “miracle” of staying in the league and will remain in Serie D in the 2012/13 season.

“We will win,” the “Jergina” announced before the play-out second leg against Montecchio Maggiore. That's how it was, because the Puster team won against the club from Veneto on Sunday afternoon, safely and more than deservedly, 4-2.
