St. Georgen can still do it

While Giorgione already has relegation in his pocket, St. Georgen's final games are about making it clear that they will stay in Serie D and averting a move into the play out. With the win against Giorgione, the Pusterers kept their chance of staying in the league. To do this, they have to stay in 13th place and stay at least nine points ahead of the third-to-last team in Serie D. In the meantime, the gap to the safe midfield places has shrunk to two points.

About the game: After an initial scan, Mattia Episcopo stormed towards Pietersteiner in the eighth minute, but the ASC St. Georgen goalkeeper was able to clear at the very last second. Four minutes later, Obrist “fired” a shot from 30 meters that required the visiting keeper to use all his skills.

After this mediocre initial phase, Giorgione was the more active team and also had more possession of the ball, but the bottom line was that nothing noteworthy came of it. After a little more than half an hour, the “Jergina” could have taken the lead out of the blue when Bachlechner appeared alone in front of Lorello, but the visiting keeper was on the spot (35th). The action was initiated by Holzner, who staged Hansi Mair. He in turn gave the through ball to “Bach”, who, however, showed nerves. Three minutes before the half-time whistle, Episcopo crossed into the middle, but Gazzolla headed it well over the goal. After 45 minutes the score remained 0-0.

After the break the game sputtered along. In the 65th minute, Episcopo took a free kick, which Pietersteiner was able to fend off with great difficulty. Eleven minutes later, Hansi Mair successfully completed a great move and put the home team in the lead. Bachlechner broke through on the right and passed the ball back to Harrasser, whose cross Hansi Mair headed into the net (76').

In the final phase, the home team cleverly controlled the game. Even in the last four minutes of the game nothing changed in the narrow victory for the home team.

St. Georgen can still do it

On the 31st matchday in Serie D, ASC St. Georgen celebrated a vital victory and ended a dry spell that had lasted nine matchdays. The last time the “Jergina” scored a “threesome” was on January 29th. Hansi Mair scored the goal of the day against tenth-placed Giorgione.
