Stefan Rellich: “My Tramin is a team with strong nerves”

Stefan Rellich, what was the mood like yesterday after the final whistle sounded? We didn't know the results of the other games, so the whole situation was very tense at first. When the stadium announcer in Brixen announced that Albiano had lost and Naturns had only drawn, we were of course extremely happy. Although I would have preferred a threesome to be on the safe side.

Tramin's players seem to have good nerves in tricky situations: two years ago they won the playoff for promotion, in the last two seasons they managed to stay in the league on the last matchday...

Yes, it really seems like we can add another ten percent in moments like this. This year we won all of our last three home games because we knew we absolutely needed the points and in the end it was enough. But it has to be said that we were only full twice in the second half of the season and had to play some games with only 15 players due to suspensions and injuries. This meant that many players had to play in different positions than they normally do. It was also noticeable that over the course of the championship we had an easier time against the teams that were strong on paper than against the supposedly “weaker” ones. We were able to play more relaxed there.

What else was crucial for staying in the league? I think our coach Reinhold Mayr managed to weld us together again into a unit in the second half of the season. He passed on a lot of his experience as a player to us. Besides, none of us are ball magicians. Our strengths are ambition, passion, heart and soul. This is what sets us apart and thanks to these virtues we have managed to stay in the top league. That makes me proud.

What was better: the promotion two years ago or the two relegations on the last match day? Certainly promotion in the playoffs. Especially given the circumstances in which we ultimately won. It was also nice that we managed to stay in the league in the last two years. Next year it would be great if we could play easily in the last three or four games and stay in the league. It doesn't have to be such a heart-stopping finale every year...

As in the 2011/12 season, ASV Tramin pulled its head out of the loop on the last matchday this year - i.e. managed to stay in the league - and will continue to chase the top league in the coming sports year. SportNews in a short interview with captain Stefan Rellich.
