TIM Cup: A pleasant FCS has to admit defeat to Catania

Catania controlled the action in front of 6000 spectators in the early stages and at times restricted FC Südtirol in their own half. But the guests had the first two opportunities. In the 17th minute, Fink tried a long-range shot, but he fired it wide of the goal. Just 60 seconds later, Tait gathered his courage and let loose a shot from a good 35 meters, which Terraciano took with a brilliant effort from the corner.

However, Catania took the lead with the first opportunity. After a remarkable combination with Chrapek, Martinho suddenly found himself completely free in the penalty area, who pushed the ball past Melgrati. The ball rolled off the inside post and into the net (22').

FC Südtirol is getting stronger and stronger

This hit woke up the Rastelli squad. In the 26th minute, Cia tried a well-placed right-foot shot with the inside of her foot. Terraciano had to stretch really long to direct the ball out of the goal.

Then, in the 33rd minute, the South Tyrolean attacking trio consisting of Cia, Fischnelller and Campo once again appeared dangerously in the Catania penalty area, but Terraciano threw himself on the ball after a through pass to Fischnelller and was able to clear it again for a corner.

In the final phase of the first half the home team became stronger again. First Rosina tried with her head (41'), before Morzon tried a powerful left-foot shot that just missed the far post by a hair's breadth.

CIA involved in almost all offensive actions

After the break, Martinho scored in the 50th minute, forcing Melgrati to make a great save. Eight minutes later, Campo tried a free kick on the other side, which Terraciano struggled to direct over the crossbar. After that it was over for the winger and Branca took his place.

A little later, Cia drew attention again. His left-footed shot narrowly missed the Catania goal. At this point 63 minutes had been played. Five minutes later, Calaiò forced FCS goalie Melgrati to do a brilliant deed after a free kick. His defense was short, but substitute Calello missed from six meters.

After that the game petered out. The FCS tried hard, but nothing worthwhile came out of it. Until the 79th minute, when Cia rose to a header but didn't get enough pressure behind the ball.

Marras has the equalizer on his feet Shortly before the end, Marras tried a shot on the move, which was easy prey for Terraciano after Melgrati on the other side prevented the score from making it 2-0 with a nice save.

Marras could have equalized in stoppage time, but he slipped in a promising position. A little later it was over. Catania won 1-0 and will now face Cagliari in the third round of the TIM Cup.
