Timpone: “We have arrived in Serie D, but be careful…”

With a whopping seven goals conceded in just two games, Virtus Bozen got off to a very bad start in its debut year in the fourth highest division. But with the equalizer against title contenders Monza and the last-minute win at the weekend against their ambitious league rivals from Lecco, the South Tyroleans quickly got on track. “Obviously the start wasn't positive, but right from the start we played against three promotion candidates. That was tough as hell. But we have already adapted to the level of the league against Pergolettese and most recently against Monza and Lecco. We have definitely arrived in Serie D,” explains storm tank Matteo Timpone.

Serie A experience in the ranks of Ponte Isola

For the 23-year-old from Bolzano, who has already played in the German regional league in the past, Serie D is by no means new territory. He appears to be correspondingly prepared for the tasks ahead. “We just can’t get euphoric now. Our next encounter is also truly something special. Ponte Isola has several former Serie A and Serie B players, and nobody will take us lightly anymore,” said Timpone, who added: “We have to fight until we drop in every game, otherwise We have no chance of survival in this league.”

In fact, the opponent from Ponte San Pietro, a suburb of Bergamo, has some players in their ranks who are an absolute luxury asset for this league, above all the Brazilians Ferreira Pinto and Joelson, as well as Espinal from the Dominican Republic. All three have already played in the top Italian league. A truly mammoth task awaits Matteo Timpone and Co. on the fifth Serie D matchday.
