Coaching debut with subdued expectations at FC Südtirol

After FC Südtirol lost the match against Mantova last Sunday, the club management took the consequences of the ongoing negative trend (4 points in the last 11 games) and fired coach Adolfo Sormani. Just a few hours later, his successor, Giovanni Stroppa, was chosen.

On Saturday at 14.30 p.m. the new trainer and his team will compete in Pavia. A hot dance awaits the FCS in the “Fortunati” stadium. Pavia are in second place, just three points behind Bassano, and have the best attack in the league with 54 goals scored. But the Lombards are in a bit of a crisis: the Blues have won one win, three draws and one defeat in the last five games.

Pavia's squad includes three players who have already donned the FCS jersey in the past. Starting with director Alex Pederzoli, who pulled the strings in the white and red midfield last year (27 appearances and 4 goals) and goalkeeper Davide Facchin, who joined FCS in January and was between the posts 19 times. Mattia Marchi's time goes back a little further. The striker moved from Cremonese to Pavia in the winter and was a striker for the FCS in the 2009/2010 season. In a year and a half, Mattia scored eleven goals and led the South Tyroleans into the third division.

Make relegation perfect

FC Südtirol definitely needs more points in these last three championship games, because the gap to the first playout place is six points. Monza is in 16th place in the table and can theoretically still catch up with FCS.

Stroppa will only have to do without the suspended Sebastian Mladen in Pavia. Marco Martin is slightly injured, but will be available, as will the rest of the squad players.
