FC Barcelona continues its expensive shopping spree. The heavily indebted top club reached an agreement with Sevilla FC to sign the French defender Jules Koundé , as the Catalans announced on Thursday. The 23-year-old will sign a contract after medical examinations. According to media reports, the fixed transfer fee should be around 50 million euros. Barca beat Chelsea to their bid for Koundé. The Xavi squad already had six expensive central defenders in the squad.

Barça had already brought in Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich and Raphinha from Leeds United for a total of around 110 million euros this summer break. Franck Kessié and Andreas Christensen also came on free transfers. The bizarre thing is that several players such as midfield ace Frenkie De Jong have had to forgo large parts of their salary for a year. Now, according to consistent media reports, they should even accept further salary cuts so that Barca can finance the expensive new additions. Bayern's central defender talent Chris Richards , who was most recently on loan at Hoffenheim, is moving to Crystal Palace in the Premier League for 12 million euros. Napoli have brought in another successor for Koulibaly, who moved to Chelsea. The Neapolitans brought in the 1,90 meter tall central defender Min Jae Kim from Fenerbahce Istanbul. The 25-year-old South Korean cost the Neapolitans 18 million euros.

Manchester United have the Argentina international Lisandro Martinez obligated. The 24-year-old defender signed a contract with the Red Devils until June 2027 with the option of a further year. The transfer fee amounts to the equivalent of around 57 million euros, plus there could be bonus payments of 10 million euros. Martinez moves to the island from Ajax Amsterdam.
