UEFA sells US media rights for 1,5 billion euros

The Paramount Global company, which is behind the TV broadcaster CBS, secured the licenses for the Champions, European and Conference Leagues and prevailed against Amazon. CBS confirmed the new agreement, which applies from the 2024/2025 season, on Friday evening (local time). However, CBS did not give exact figures. CBS had already broadcast these competitions in the USA, but at significantly cheaper conditions. The new contract runs for six years and, according to “The Athletic”, UEFA will collect 250 million euros per season. So far it has been 100 million per season. There will be a separate sale for the Spanish-language rights. From 2024, UEFA's long-planned reform of the premier class will also come into force. Among other things, the field of participants in the Champions League will be increased from 32 to 36 teams, increasing the number of games from 125 per season to 225. This is intended to generate additional income. “UEFA has been a key driver for Paramount+ from the start and we are thrilled to extend this successful partnership and show even more world-class football, building on the incredible momentum we have created over the last two years,” said Sean McManus, the chairman of CBS Sports. The Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool FC (1-0) was watched by 2,8 million viewers on the CBS network in May, more than ever before. In 2026 the World Cup will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

UEFA sells US media rights for 1,5 billion euros
