Search for Sala canceled again

"I'm on a plane that looks like it's falling apart and I'm on the way to Cardiff," the Argentine said in the Whatsapp message he sent to friends and relatives.

Sala's father Horacio confirmed the authenticity of the recording to the newspaper Clarin, which continued: "If you don't hear from me in an hour and a half: I don't know if they'll send someone, they won't find me anyway. Dad, I have them Fear." Engine noises can be heard in the background.

The small plane disappeared on Monday evening while flying from Nantes to Cardiff, around 20 kilometers north of the Channel island of Guernsey.

The search for Sala began on Tuesday and continued on Wednesday until it was stopped again at nightfall in the evening. Guernsey police said the decision to re-admission would be made early Thursday morning. Chief officer John Fitzgerald, who is leading the operation, said: "Sadly, I personally don't believe there is hope."

The police had previously outlined four possible scenarios: Either the plane landed on the water and the occupants made it onto the lifeboat, which was definitely on board. Or they could have been picked up by a passing ship. There would also be the possibility that they would have landed somewhere else and not yet made contact or that the aircraft would have been destroyed upon contact with the water.

The 28-year-old striker Sala completed his move from French first division club FC Nantes, for whom he scored twelve times in 19 games, to Cardiff City in the English Premier League last Saturday. The Welsh are said to have paid a club record fee of around 17 million euros.
