Was it the last duel between the two giants?

Cristiano Ronaldo was able to get over this defeat in what was possibly the last giant duel. “So happy to be back on the pitch,” wrote the 37-year-old Portuguese football superstar after an all-star team from his new Saudi club Al-Nassr and its rivals Al-Hilal beat French champions Paris St. 4-5. Germain with world champion Lionel Messi. Ronaldo was also pleased that he scored two goals himself.

And it was nice to meet old friends, he wrote late on Thursday evening about pictures, one of which shows Ronaldo standing arm in arm with Messi as a greeting before kick-off. The Argentine, in turn, posted a mini-sequence in a story on Instagram in which he can be seen sharing a warm hug with Ronaldo.

According to Argentine and Portuguese media, it was the 37th duel for the two superstars. This time it wasn't particularly sporty, but it had a very high entertainment value in the King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh. “Spectacle guaranteed for a gala,” was PSG’s headline on its homepage late in the evening. “The spectators really got their money’s worth,” said France’s sports paper “L’Équipe”. “Ronaldo, Messi turn back the years in the nine-goal thriller,” wrote broadcaster Al Jazeera. A highly turbulent game It started with a goal from Messi, followed by two goals from Ronaldo, a missed penalty from Neymar, a converted penalty from Kylian Mbappé and a lot more, including a red card (PSG professional Juan Bernat). Not to forget an accidental elbow check by PSG keeper Keylor Navas on Ronaldo, but even the scratch on his face couldn't stop him from celebrating the goal.

After an hour, Ronaldo was substituted, as were Messi and his strike partners Neymar and Mbappé. After a short break, the almost 70.000 spectators were treated to a few more highlights with two more goals.
