Who will be world champion?

Before the opening game between Brazil and Croatia a little over two weeks ago, the tips would probably have been different. But during the group phase, our respondents were able to form an opinion about the World Cup participants and now, before the start of the round of 16, we asked them about their top favorites.

Eppan new addition Armin Mayr believes in the victory of a South American team. “My favorites are Chile and Argentina. Chile made a very good impression on me and plays fast football. Argentina is one of the favorites simply because of Messi. “He’s playing a fabulous World Cup,” says the midfield strategist.

Simon Greif , Tramin's captain, believes that theoretically Germany should win, but names the Dutch as favorites. “I am impressed with how the Dutch have played so far and how well organized they are. But I would also like to add that almost every team is now in contention for the World Cup. Because no team was really convincing. Chile surprised me positively.”

Greif's teammate Stefan Rellich is on fire for Germany. “I hope Germany wins. But I don't believe in it. It's more likely to be a South American team, like Colombia. In my opinion, Argentina is too weak defensively,” says Rellich.

St. Georgen's captain also believes in a victory for a South American team Roland Harrasser . “I think Brazil can do it. People expect it, they have the home advantage, a good team. Everything speaks for her. The euphoria carries her,” believes the “Jergina” full-back.

Argentina – that’s the tip from Salurns Max Dalpiaz . “Messi’s form is outstanding and is getting better from game to game. The greatest thing of all would be a final between Brazil and Argentina.”

Hans Rudi Brugger (St. Martin) is also convinced that the Dutch will win. “The way they played in the group, they should make it. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Germany and hope that they win the title.” Also the heart of Plose's top attacker Hansjörg Stockner beats black-red-gold. “Germany will become world champions because they are a tournament team, because it is time for them to become world champions and because it is boring,” believes Stockner.

What is curious, however, is the logic of Stockner's teammate Günther Fischer . “Before the World Cup, I said that every series has to end at some point and that is why this year, for the first time, a European team will be world champions in South America. My tip was that it would be some southern European team, like Spain or Portugal. For my tip to work out, it has to be Greece.”

Whether someone will be right or whether a completely different team will make it in the end - we will know on the evening of July 13th...
