Two former FCS coaches are aiming high

Only a few have managed to shape the club's history of FC Südtirol to such an extent as these two coaches have. Both managed to trigger a wave of euphoria in South Tyrol. The FCS served as a vertical start to their careers for both of them. Both are now regarded as renowned coaches in Serie B. And yet both could hardly be more different in character.

The southern Italian Giuseppe Sanino is considered an impulsive, gesture-rich motivational artist who sometimes gets into trouble with referees and the audience. He led FC Südtirol into professional football in 2000 and arrived in the then Serie C2, inspiring fans with spectacular offensive football.

His successor Attilio Tesser On the other hand, he has made a name for himself as a proven football expert and tactical expert. With the now 52-year-old from Montebelluna, FC Südtirol missed out on promotion to Serie C1 twice in a row in the play-off games. Tesser formed leading players such as Simone Motta and Morris Molinari in Bolzano.

On the way to Serie A Tesser recently made the jump to higher leagues, and at one point he was even behind the sidelines for first division club Cagliari. At the moment he is fighting with Novara for promotion to Serie A. As third in the table, the Piedmontese, for whom Manuel Scavone from Bolzano is regularly used, are fully on course for the play-offs. Novara was only promoted to Serie B last summer, as was the Sanino team from Varese, which is in fourth place, just one point behind Novara. The two teams are the sensational teams of the current second division championship and could achieve promotion to the upper house of football in just a few weeks, which was never thought possible.

Even if the class jump doesn't work out on the pitch, both trainers could be in the coaching bench of a Serie A club next season. While Tesser has long been associated with several first division clubs, according to consistent media reports, a move from Sannino to Genoa seems to be taking shape. It will be interesting to see where the path of the two former FCS coaches will lead soon.
