Cyclocross: Lechner and Dorigoni are Italian champions

While Lechner's title win was a mere formality, Dorigoni's victory bordered on a small surprise. The young athlete from Pfatten had a difficult 2015, in which he had to endure many injury-related setbacks. But Dorigoni is a fighter and, last but not least, a gifted cycling talent - he proved that impressively in his race. In wintry conditions, muddy surfaces and a large wall of smoke, Dorigoni started the race in number four. Right from the start, the rider from Team South Tyrol hit his pedals with an extremely high rhythm and relatively quickly caught up with Michele Bassani (Work Service), who had pulled away from the field. But Dorigoni was able to shake him off too, increasing his lead lap after lap and finally crossing the finish line with an advantage of 30 seconds. “It was a tough race, but I wanted to shake off everyone and I did it,” explains Dorigoni at the finish. This success was doubly important for Pfattner, as he was able to defend his title from the previous year.

Lechner cannot be beaten For Eva Lechner, the race in Udine was a better training session. Thanks to an impeccable performance, the woman from Eppan took first place in the women's elite class and secured her seventh Italian championship title in cyclocross. Lechner shone with a time of 1:38.50,6 minutes and was over two minutes behind second-placed Anna Oberparleiter from Puster. Now the woman from Eppan will prepare for the World Championships in Heusden-Zolder (Belgium) in Gran Canaria, Spain, on January 30th and 31st. Lechner's desire for revenge is very great: last year, a fall at the World Championships in Tabor (Czech Republic) was her downfall, which is why the Eppan native only achieved a disappointing 31st place. Before her World Cup appearance, Lechner wants to regain the overall lead at the World Cup stages in Ligniers-En-Berry (France) and Hoogerheide (Netherlands). She is currently in second place, 17 points behind leader Sanne Cant.
