Thanks to VAR and Hawk Eye: France beats Australia

Paul Pogba saved the highly rated French from a false start in the World Cup against strong Australians. The midfielder shot the long-disappointing “Equipe Tricolore” to a flattering 81-2 opening win in Kazan in the 1st minute on Saturday. Antoine Griezmann gave France the lead with a penalty kick after the first video evidence (VAR) of the World Cup (58th). Mile Jedinak scored the deserved equalizer for the Socceroos (41nd penalty) in front of 279 spectators.

A tactical change in attack, where Griezmann, who started on the wing, and Mbappé, who played in the middle, swapped positions, did not give the French any more momentum. A penalty kick converted by Griezmann based on video evidence then gave the 1998 world champion a 1-0 lead. But shortly afterwards, defender Samuel Umtiti made a handball in the penalty area - Jedinak used the hand penalty to equalize for Australia before Pogba was able to score the winning goal. The ball bounced off the bottom edge of the crossbar just behind the line and was given thanks to the goal line technology (Hawk Eye).
