Love vacation: Özil leaves World Cup frustration behind him

The playmaker for the German national soccer team is enjoying his vacation on the holiday island of Santorini with his girlfriend Amine Gülse. “Thank you for always being there for me. “You make me laugh even when my world is falling apart,” Özil wrote to his girlfriend on Instagram and posted a vacation photo together with the sea in the background.

To date, Özil has not commented on his much-discussed photo with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. After the embarrassing failure in the group phase, the 29-year-old spoke out on Twitter. “Having to leave the World Cup after the group stage hurts so much. We just weren't good enough. It will take me some time to get over it,” said the 2014 world champion. In an addition (“SayNoToRacism”) he spoke out against racism.
