World Cup songs as a party maker in Russia

This year's official FIFA World Cup anthem will be sung by US actor Will Smith alongside Nicky Jam, whose family is from Puerto Rico, and Kosovar singer Era Istrefi. The song has no direct connection to the host country and although it doesn't contain many lyrics, with only "oh, oh, ohs" being heard for long stretches, it still has the potential to be a hit at the World Cup. The song will be sung by the performers themselves in Moscow immediately before the big World Cup final.

Jason Derulo also delivers a potential hit for the 2018 World Cup. The song “Colors”, which he produced in collaboration with Coca Cola, will serve as the World Cup anthem for the drinks manufacturer. But opinions about this song are divided. While some are enthusiastic, others find the song too classic and too boring. Derulo himself says about his piece: “Colors represents the different flags and cultures from all over the world and will unite them all in one beat!”

The ARD World Cup song comes from Germany, more precisely from the “Fantastic Four” together with Clueso and is called “Together”. The title of the song is exactly the term that has accompanied the German national team throughout their preparation and that will also be used again and again in Russia during the World Cup. The DFB's motto is the hashtag #ZSMMN and that's exactly what this song embodies.

Even star defender Jerome Boateng composed his own World Cup song in collaboration with British comedian Jack Whitehall. In the song “Team” he makes fun of many DFB players and puts them through the wringer with a wink. Boateng can not only kick well, he can also rap well, as he is under contract with the well-known rapper Jay-Z. Maybe in the near future we will see him on the stage and no longer on the pitch.

The World Cup song for Switzerland comes from DJ Antoine and is: “Ole`, Ole`”. There has already been a lot of criticism for this, because some passages of the text really don't fit the World Cup. The song's premiere was on June 8th before Switzerland's international match against Japan.

“Football 2018” comes from former ESC participants Buranowskije Babuschki (Grandmas from Buranowo) and is Russia’s World Cup anthem. The song has a lot of folk elements and is very special, but the Russians will definitely like it.

Another German World Cup song comes from Adel Tawil with his piece “Flutlicht”, which was released on May 11th this year. Tawil is considered a big football fan and he always wanted to express his passion musically. Now he has achieved this with his anthem just in time for the World Cup.

Although “Legends” by Max Giesinger was not written explicitly for the 2018 World Cup, the song could still be a big hit there because, according to experts, it has enough “catching potential”. And finally, Max Giesinger proved at the European Championships two years ago with his song “2 Million” that he loves, lives and understands football.
