The home World Cup in Latsch is all about South Tyrolean tobogganers

In the men's field, Pigneter prevailed with a large lead of 1,31 seconds over the Austrian Thomas Kammerlander. After the victory on one of his favorite routes in the World Cup, the man from Völs was extremely satisfied: “I managed a dream run in the qualification, and in the second run I had to find the right balance between attack and defense. But I had the track under control.” Alex Gruber came third behind Pigneter and Kammerlander. The Villandro native, who missed out on second place by just two hundredths, struggled a bit with the result after the race. “I could actually have performed better on the technically demanding track,” said Gruber. Florian Clara and Florian Breitenberger took seventh and eighth place.

Evelin Lanthaler won the women's race ahead of Tina Unterberger (Austria) and her compatriot Greta Pinggera. The reigning world and European champion was happy after her victory: “The first run was exciting, and my second run wasn't without mistakes either. I knew that I had to give it my all because otherwise it wouldn't have been enough. Nevertheless, I took things easy and now I'm of course happy that everything went well," said Lanthaler, who is in second place behind Unterberger in the overall women's World Cup. Local hero Sara Bachmann came fourth in Latsch. “Sure, I expected more on the home track, but I'm still not dissatisfied with fourth place,” were Bachmann's words at the finish.

South Tyroleans also set the tone in the team competition As in the individual races, South Tyrol's tobogganers were the dominant athletes in the team competition. Evelin Lanthaler, Alex Gruber and Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara won the team race ahead of Austria and Russia.

The only “away” victory was celebrated in Latsch by the doubles Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer from Austria. The duo from the Alpine republic left the series winners Pigneter/Clara behind and claimed their first World Cup victory. “The competition is very strong, everyone is very close to each other. “Everything has to be right on this track,” said Clara, paying respect to the winners after the race. He and Pigneter remain in first place after their second place in the overall doubles rankings.

On Saturday the decisions of the second World Cup stage for natural track luge were on the agenda in Latsch. At the home race, South Tyrol's tobogganing aces were convincing across the board: Both Patrick Pigneter and Evelin Lanthaler were unbeatable in the individual competitions and took victory.
