First World Cup victory for Rudi Resch

“I've never been the last one up, it was completely different. After the chicane I thought to myself, it went well and after that every corner was good and in the end the time was good too.”

The first to congratulate was world champion Patrick Pigneter, who had a complete failure in the first run and had to attack from fifth place: “It was a very strange situation for me,” he said, “I haven't been this far back in five or six years I usually start the race last. It was really exciting today.” He managed to jump from fifth to second place with the best running time.

Anton Blasbichler celebrated his 49th podium finish, completing the South Tyrolean triumph. “The track here doesn't suit me badly, especially the many straights that there are here. “I also had great material and knew the track from before.” The veteran in the South Tyrolean team last stood on the podium in Passeier in December 2007 and proved once again that he is always a force to be reckoned with. Florian Breitenberger, who was in second place after the first run, was unable to repeat his performance and fell back to sixth place.

With her fourth victory in the fourth race of the season, the Russian Ekatharina Lavrentjeva once again demonstrated that she is the clear number one in luge racing. She won confidently in Kindberg, even though this track is relatively unknown to her: “I haven't run a single run here in five years, I only had the two training runs to get to know the track. I haven't been here to train since the last World Cup five years ago.

Austria's Melanie Batkowski, who missed out on a podium finish a week ago, fought back and achieved the tenth second place of her career. Third-place finisher Renate Gietl from Feldthurns was not satisfied: “I'm annoyed with myself today. This track is exactly my track, I could have beaten Ekatharina here. But I made a small mistake in the first run, then wanted to approach the corner tighter in the second run and thus made an even bigger mistake. But I’ll put the race behind me and concentrate fully on the World Championships next week.”
