First World Championship test for natural track tobogganers on Thursday

A three-digit number of employees will be working in front of and behind the scenes in Deutschnofen this long weekend to make the World Cup a success. Almost 80 athletes from 17 nations are at the start. For the town on Reggelberg, the long weekend that has been working towards for months begins.

The countless local small sponsors who made the financing of the World Cup possible - together with the public sector - can be seen as an indicator of the enthusiasm for tobogganing in the town. Nova Ponente stands behind “its” World Cup, which is also shown by the number of volunteers who support the eleven-person OK team.

There is enough to do - from the marshals and announcers to the catering in the festival tent and the on-call service from the fire brigade and the White Cross to the night watch at the festival tent and the volunteers who accompany the athletes to the doping control. Back in the summer, a dozen or so volunteers replaced the wooden boards on the route with a view to the World Cup. The local band will also be in action on Thursday, starting at 19 p.m. during the entry of the World Cup participants, including the opening ceremony and gala evening.

Speaking of the opening ceremony: This takes place at the festival tent right next to the toboggan run. The organizers around the OK heads Christian Gallmetzer and Martin Mittermair have once again tried to design the World Cup not only as a sporting but also as a social event. This has become something of a tradition at the international tobogganing events that have taken place in Nova Ponente in recent years.

Almost 80 athletes from 17 nations (around 45 men, 25 women, 15 doubles) are taking part in the World Cup on the World Cup-tested Pföslriep toboggan run in Nova Ponente. After the start number raffle this Wednesday evening in the Hotel Pfösl, the men's and women's singles will complete their two training runs on Thursday from 10 a.m., and from 13.30 p.m. it will be the doubles' turn. The training allows the favored World Cup winners Patrick Pigneter and Ekatharina Lavrentjeva, but also all other athletes, to initially determine their position. The South Tyroleans want to win at their home World Cup, but the Russians and Austrians in particular are likely to have something against it.

For overall World Cup winner Patrick Pigneter, training means the full program, as he competes in both the single-seater and the double-seater (with Florian Clara). Two years ago in Umhausen Pigneter had to be content with bronze (in the singles) and silver (in the doubles), in Deutschnofen, where he is still unbeaten, he would like to do better this time.

The team competition begins on Friday at 10 a.m.
