Evelin Lanthaler cannot be beaten in Moscow

Lanthaler showed a perfect competition in the Russian capital and achieved victory with two fastest times. After her second win of the season, the South Tyrolean was extremely satisfied: “Things went ideal in the qualification, I had an almost perfect run. This gave me a cushion in the final run and I didn't have to risk too much. Won the race, set the best time twice – it couldn’t be better.”

With her triumph, Lanthaler moved level with the Austrian Tina Unterberger in the overall World Cup. Unterberger came second in Moscow. Greta Pinggera, another South Tyrolean tobogganer, took third place. The woman from Lasa had a bit of a problem with her first run: “In the first run I was able to avoid a fall with great difficulty, so of course my time wasn’t the best. Today I had to come up from behind the field, so to speak, but I managed the second run well.”

Gruber and Pigneter in the men’s race on the “Stockerl” In the men's category, the Austrian Thomas Kammerlander prevailed ahead of the two local aces Alex Gruber and Patrick Pigneter. Gruber, who was looking for redemption after his third place in Laces, enjoyed his second place: “I wanted to do better here in Moscow after the World Cup in Laces, and I succeeded. Of course, that gives you self-confidence for the next races.” The man from Villandro also had words of praise for the track in the Russian capital: “The track in Moscow is a track where the material has to be right and which you shouldn’t be afraid of. I like it, it’s short and sweet.”

Patrick Pigneter, who was only in sixth place in the qualification, was able to move up to third place thanks to a good second run. “There was also a bit of luck, but I got the most out of it,” said the overall World Cup leader.

In the double-seater pursuit race, Patrick Pigneter/Florian Clara finished third behind the Russian duos Aleksandr Egorov/Petr Popov and Aleksey Martyanov/Ivan Rodin. This meant that the local duo was able to limit the damage in the fight for the doubles World Cup crown one day after finishing sixth.

The World Cup stage in Moscow will conclude on Sunday with the men's and women's pursuit races.
